He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

 Ecclesiastes 3:11

February 2018

Hello Hope Gathering Women,

Thank you for your courage, vulnerability, and excitement over these past four years. We have grown and been encouraged deeply in our own walks with Christ, and we trust and hope that you have as well. As a new year begins, we wanted to let you know that there will be no annual Hope Gathering conference in 2018.

Hope Gathering began as a dream in Suzy's heart. She longed for a time of equipping and encouragement that didn't cost a lot of money, that represented the diversity of NYC, and that was specific to the unique needs of NYC women. Caitie joined Suzy as the event director shortly before the first conference. At the time, Suzy was on staff with CRU and Caitie was freelancing (editing, writing, and event planning). It was rare to have two passionate and capable women with enough margin to run a women's conference. Rarer still was the team of women that rallied around them to get it all done. Hope Gathering has always been run on sacrifices of time, something all New Yorkers know is an expensive commodity. Through grants from The Women's Bible Society and the generosity of the Hope Gathering community, God provided material resources again and again. We saw three annual conferences, at least 600 unique conference visitors, 37 main stage speakers, 100 connecting sessions, and various smaller gatherings of prayer, connection and volunteering through out the years. God proclaimed His glory among us and in us, healing and freeing, challenging and affirming, encouraging, commissioning and equipping many in our time together.

As we wrapped the third Hope Gathering in March 2017, major change occurred in both Suzy and Caitie's personal lives. After thirteen years on staff with CRU, Suzy left her position and was hired fulled time as the Pastor of Equipping at Church of the City, New York. Around the same time, Caitie found out she was pregnant with her second son, and her husband accepted a job in Houston, Texas. With broken hearts and faith in God's mysterious ways and unwavering goodness, Caitie and her husband moved their family south in April and welcomed Griffin Theodore in October. Suzy and Caitie spent the remainder of 2017 in "survival mode," adjusting to the new pace of life God had orchestrated for both of them and agreeing to put Hope Gathering on hiatus until they could get some much needed perspective on their new lives.

We don't know what the future will hold for Hope Gathering, but for now we feel led to cancel the 2018 conference and to instead spend time updating our website with all of the amazing resources we, as a community, have compiled over the years. So check out our website later this month for the talks and art pieces from 2014, 2015, and 2017, plus the Hope Devotional, and lists of great counseling resources.

Even though this season of Hope Gathering has come to a close, we rejoice in everything the Lord did in and through Hope Gathering these past few years. May He continue to bear much fruit in and through all of us, as we look to Him as our true source of Hope and as we partner with Him to be agents of His Hope in our world.

Much Love,

Suzy, Caitie, and the Hope Gathering Board
