Lydia Doublestein

Lydia Doublestein (born as Park, HeeEun) is a student midwife at SUNY Downstate Medical Center where she is completing a Master’s of Science degree in Midwifery (by May 2017). She moved to Brooklyn, NY from Michigan where she attended Calvin College for a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health. She was born in Daegu, South Korea and immigrated to the United States as an adoptee. While pursuing midwifery, she also works as a birth assistant at the Brooklyn Birthing Center, an on out-of-hospital birth center.

"I believe birth is a normal, physiological process that works best when it is supported. Birth has the powerful ability to affect many areas of life – physical, emotional, and social. I believe in the power of women to give birth and bring life into the world – with an inner strength and ability. I work to come alongside mothers in a way that listens to and guides them in their birthing experience.  In working with birth, I feel that I am a guardian for a woman, her health, and her journey into motherhood."
